Hullo, all my stuff's gone from dA now, after an hour of deleting. Hooray.

In related news, because dA doesn't seem fit to make it easy to delete your own stuff, I made a nice little snippet of code for Greasemonkey to help me delete my stuff easier.

Basically, instead of taking you to the deviation page when you click the link in the deviation management screen, it takes you straight to the deletion page. It doesn't sound like much, but it saves a hell of a lot of clicking, and even more time (courtesy of dA's ridiculously regular server crashes).
The time it took off deleting the hundred and odd deviations I had left at the time more than made up for the 10 minutes it took to find the code I modified and figuring out how the hell to install it.

I can't release the code publicly, seeing as it's technically somebody else's which was twisted for my own evil intentions, but I will give it to friends if they have big galleries they're going to delete soon.

Keep an eye open for a very special deviation I may or may not upload soon. Just as a "I'm not uploading anything after this" present.

I will still lurk on dA.
There's too many damn good artists I'd miss otherwise, but I don't want to have my art hosted on this site's servers any more.
dA has really gone downhill since I joined, and dAv5 was the first time I realised this. I stuck with dA for months after v5 and things got worse, so I left.
I came back again a couple of days ago. I thought to myself "I'm kidding myself, things weren't that bad when you left", but after two more uploads, I realised the site was getting worse.
And dA does nothing to help anyone who (god forbid) wants to leave the site but still hangs around to watch people!

So to reiterate, I'm still watching everyone, and I'll still comment. I just won't be as active around these parts. I've learnt my lesson, and I'm not going to get so attached to any sites like this again.

Thanks dA for getting me into art, I probably wouldn't have got as far as I am with it without this site. But, you sort of suck now. Bye!

Two submissions later, two days later, I remembered why I left this site in the first place. And found some new surprises too!

No, I do not want to sell my work as a print. Stop shoving it in my face.
No, I don't want that side bar pushing halfway across the page in the message centre.
No, I don't want a black mess behind all my transparent thumbnails and no way to add a preview image to combat it.
No, I don't want Flash movies playing as soon as I go on the page (especially if I'm opening them in tabs from my message centre).
No, I don't want to have a mood in EVERY DAMN JOURNAL.
No, I don't want to subscribe to your site.

Rant over. Seeya, I'm off back to SheezyArt.
badwolf.sheezyart.com/

If anyone knows any other good art sites like dA that don't suck as much as dA, please tell me. Thanks.

EDIT: Hmm, dA goes into system maintenance the moment I try to post this journal. Good thing it was still here when I clicked the back button. (I'm posting this an hour after first typing it up, btw)

To think this site used to be the first thing I went on every day before they brought in dAv5. Good luck wrestling this place back, jark. Hope you can make it worthwhile coming to again.

Hello

1 min read
I'm going to be semi-active again. Woo?
Sorry if I don't get back to anyone on a comment, I just seemed to get loads right after I 'left'.

Anyways, I moved some of my old stuff into storage, am about to upload some new stuff, and I'll hopefully have one or two new Flash things soon.

Back. Sort of.

OK, I'm going back on my word. I'm back on dA, but I'm going to be more active on SA. And unless things improve dramatically around here I'm going to continue being more active on SA.

I'm not going to go into a rant again about why I hate the way dA is at the minute, and how ridiculously it's being run (The site has paying beta testers. For gods' sakes, use them!), so I'll just keep it simple and say why I'm back.

SA is all well and good in most of the art department, except for Flash games. I uploaded some two days ago, and there's only been one new one by someone else since. And as such, they don't get much attention from browsers either, so they've been left a bit attentionless.
And funnily enough, I just got back into making Flash games.

That, and there's too many damn good artists here I don't really want to leave (not really a fan of the lurker thing =< )

Other than that, the site is everything dA used to be, before we had the "brilliant" v5 forced on us and more. I especially like their stance on copyrighted music (You can use it in Flash worry-free, unless your Flash is just the music and nothing else).
Seeing as I'll be using OverClocked remix music for my new game though, it should be alright on dA. If not, a deviation goes up with a link to the SA version =).

So, updates:

I'm remaking Qwerty The Generic Platformer. From the ground up. Less glitches, more levels, more puzzles, more fun (hopefully). The engine's sorted pretty much, just level design to do now.
May upload a beta preview tomorrow. For now, here's the Sheezy version: www.sheezyart.com/view/1054991…

And that's pretty much it.

Also, can someone in the know tell me, is dA seriously only allowing Subscribers to give deviations preview images now? (I just read it somewhere, and am hoping like hell dA isn't that stupid).

EDIT 2: For a dA clone, SheezyArt has managed to be better in every possible way. See y'all over there.

Also, original jounal is below.

---

I'm boldenating random words here for emphasis so feel free to just read those if a wall of text isn't your thing.

I'm not fully leaving dA, I'll still stay around and comment on work / in the forums, but the place is just losing my interest to be honest. The whole site's going downhill, and I found myself not uploading a deviation earlier (a png with a transparent background) just because I know the thumbnail will look ugly because of dA's broken system and then nobody's going to bother looking (it's happened to me before).

The site's been going down since v5 came in. I gave v5 a chance, I like some new features, but then we're still getting a raw deal on other things. Half the site's still broken, the v5 skin's getting uglier than ever (even the custom css I'm using is breaking with all the new "features" dA adds that nobody wants), that "no subscription" link is taking the rip (me being picky, but I just want it to be said that I hate the little thing) and basically, I feel like I'm on a MySpace clone rather than an art site.

Gods, I could list what's messed up about the site at the minute all day, but it's never going to get fixed.
Long story short, the site isn't "fun" for me any more. It's not useful for me improving.
It's just me sticking my art up somewhere to get looked at by just half my watchers, and commented on by the same two or three people (or if I'm lucky, one different person as well, but they tend to be one word meaningless comments).

I get better critique on my art at a nice little 20-active-members forum I go on.

Anyways, putting all my stuff into storage. I might take it out again after things have been sorted out (some hope <_<).

Feel free to unwatch me or whatever. I'm fed up of trying to keep up with the Joneses in the dA popularity arms race.
I might upload new stuff from time to time, but I'm really fed up of this place. Seeya.

EDIT: And in a shocking twist, dA's gallery storage system isn't working today. And hasn't been for a few days by the sounds of things.
So now I have to keep my work up on this place against my will for a while until someone in the coder's seat pulls their finger out and stops trying to give us a flashing singing "YOU DON'T HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION!!!" widget for everyone's main page, or whatever they're doing now to avoid fixing the site.
